  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from michele -- No editing; frustrating to read : I ordered both the volume I and II of "Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc" by Mark Twain through my Amazon Prime account. They were both atrociously edited with many typographical errors. Was there no one to read it before it was printed and bound for sale? ( Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Just Michelle -- Inspiring and encouraging : I love true and inspirational books and movies. Some fiction is inspirational also, yet, I love being able to say, "Wow, that really did happen." ( Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Elaine H. -- Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc : I've always loved reading about Joan of Arc. I found Mark Twain's book late but I'm so glad I finally came across it. I loved learning the characters and their personalities and flaws. The book starts out so lovely but it's a little sad to read because if you know the history of Joan of Arc then you know how the story ends. Still so beautiful to read about her and her life through the writing of Mark Twain. I highly recommend this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2017 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from nick -- personal recollections of joan of arc : when sam clemens was a young man in hanibal , mo. one windy day walking down a steet on his way home a piece of paper blew in face he started to throw it away but before he could he noticed in large print (jeane de arc) ( Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2013 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from magic -- Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc - Volume 2 : Mark Twain has out done himself in this work. The true story of Joan of Arc is told from the point of view of a close friend. You are with her throughout her whole life, from her humble beginnings, her miraculous entry into French politics and rise to leadership of the army to her capture, trial and martyrdom. It is amazing how much she was able to achieve in such a short time. How she was abandoned and betrayed by the King she saved and raised to the throne is very poignantly presented to the reader. Well worth reading. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2012 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from R -- A good account of Joan of Arc : M Twain is very different in this book. He really adopts the simple language of the narrator and his admiration of Joan. It does make you feel like a witness of the events of the life of this incredible woman (or rather a child). ( Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2018 )
  • from Steve S. -- VINE VOICE : Mark Twain's best ( 5.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from J Philip A Hinton -- Understanding Joan of Arc : This is the first time I now understand why Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Before it was a story of heroism and capture and execution. Now it is a story of the maid touched by God’s power and grace, and how she was killed by God’s enemies and yet came out as a hero for the ages. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2019 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dommy -- Masterpiece : Absolutely fantastic. Albeit forgotten, this work of Mark Twain which he personally regarded as one of his best, is just that. Fantastic story, great conclusion, absolutely recommend this to anyone interested in a good read. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 9, 2014 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from PaulC -- Joan of Arc betrayed. : Touching and extremely descriptive of the way Joan was betrayed from a friend's eyes that is unlikely to be proved wrong. Very sad and personal. I am very glad to have read this second volume. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 31, 2013 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Dave M -- Four Stars : Good ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 25, 2015 )
